News & Blog: Team Blogs 10/06/07 Team HighPoint To Attend Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony
Team HighPoint is pleased to announce that they will be attending the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony, the country's highest civilian honor, for His Holiness The Dalai Lama at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, October 17th. The event will be presided over by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. President George W. Bush will be in attendance marking the first time a sitting U.S. President has appeared with The Dalai Lama at a public event. The bill to award the Dalai Lama the Congressional Gold Medal, which was passed by Congress on September 13th, 2006, and signed into law by President Bush on September 27th, 2006, enjoyed broad bipartisan support. Congressional Gold Medal legislation requires two-thirds of Congress to co-sponsor before the bill will be considered, which is an especially high hurdle. Past recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal include George Washington, Pope John Paul II, and other Nobel Peace Laureates, such as Nelson Mandela and Elie Wiesel. Team HighPoint wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to John Ackerly, President of the International Campaign For Tibet, for arranging the invitations for Team HighPoint. by John at 05:19:40 pm Comments:No Comments for this post yet...
